ASMR for Sleep and Anxiety

The Lovely Fairy Char

According to Wikipedia, "Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a colloquial term used for an experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. It has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia."

Within the last few years, ASMR videos have exploded (quietly) across Youtube, with ASMRtists giving us relaxing "tingles" using 3D mics, soft voices, ambient noises, and makeup brushes. ASMR is such a great alternative or supplemental treatment for anxiety and sleeplessness, and I can attest - I'm not even sure I can count how many lovely makeup roleplay videos I've dozed off to after a particularly stressful day.

There's something to be said for hearing a person speaking softly and enunciating their words just so, something soothing in the soft scratch of a pencil against paper, the sounds nails tapping of plastic, the static whisper of a brush through long hair - and it is that relaxing sensation that ASMRtists are trying to recreate in their videos.

Here are just a few Youtubers that I would like to recommend for your first foray into the world of "tingles."

ASMR Requests

Ali is the Queen of ASMR roleplays - with everything from realistic green screen backgrounds, gentle speaking, and even different characters for different types of tingles, Ali, who is a talented actress, has something for everyone. I'm a big fan of her cute but awkward character, Salmon.

Fairy Char ASMR

Charlotte is a dental hygienist by day, ASMR beautician by night. Or early morning. Or weekend....basically, whenever she has quiet time to film. Her videos are very soft, feminine, and soothing. Plus, she gives a lot of useful makeup and skin care tips in her makeup roleplays. Her cooking ASMR videos are also especially wonderful, if the sound of food sizzling in a pan appeals to you.

Latte ASMR

Latte is currently my favorite. She's Korean, but creates spectacularly cute and endearing videos in Korean, Japanese, and English. Her lightly accented voice and careful pronunciation go above and beyond in soothing, and she's very talented in moving only in soft and deliberate ways. Nothing jarring about Latte at all.

Crinkleluvin ASMR

If you don't think going to the doctor can be the most relaxing and beneficial experience ever, think again. Dr. Luvin, a former infectious diseases nurse, uses only the most accurate and realistic medical props and terms in her roleplays. She also features some horror themed videos, so if you want to get tingles to the spookiness of American Horror Story, she's your gal.

Ardra ASMR

There's just...something about Ardra. Her words are casual, but her tone deliberate. Movements slow and calming, eyes sharp and witty. She's unsettling to behold and yet the most calming presence. I love Ardra's videos, especially her up close and personal roleplays, so much - and I think you will too.
