This Week in....Mercury Retrograde.

When the week began, I had honestly forgotten that Mercury was in retrograde. Last week didn't bother me all that much - even though there was a flurry of mass emails and texts that had to go out to a million of our contracted interpreters, I wasn't feeling the brunt of any nasty retrograde effects.

This week, however, was an entirely different story.

It began with a sudden onset of panic as we realized that all our normal daily tasks would have to be set aside to account for a mass audit of 157 interpreter files. What *IS* an audit, exactly, you might ask? Well, it involves combing with a fine tooth comb through every single one of these files to make sure that each and every interpreter has all their documentation up to date and meeting compliance standards.

What if they don't?

And here's where it became the ultimate clusterf*ck showdown.

Monday: The audit begins. New spreadsheets, new email templates, new naming conventions. Woo~

Tuesday: I accompanied my supervisor out of town for an interpreter meeting in a different region. It was fraught with anxiety and tension, since those interpreters are facing some challenges in their industry and they were VOCAL about it.

Wednesday: Some of these interpreters who were out of compliance were suspended from certain facilities and some were inactivated. This was a decision made on our end without too much consideration and the result was that we pissed off a good handful of interpreters - who had no problem calling our department and screaming at us.

I don't cry often at work, but I felt awful.

Thursday: The audit adventures continued, but we also hosted a new interpreter orientation as well. More confused phone calls and emails poured in, but at least several of those people were also turning in documentation.

Friday: The end is in sight. But it's also Friday the 13th. There's also a Winter Storm Warning going into effect for the weekend. I'm also way behind in my normal administrative duties and the anxiety is literally killing me.

How was your week? Did it flow smoothly or snag at every turn, like mine?
