De-Stressing After A Hectic Move!

Whew! It's been a crazy past week, kids. There was so much happening at work - from Quarterly Meetings that needed planning, Interpreter Orientation (again), and professional photographs being taken for business purposes - AND at home - we moved over the weekend!

If you follow my Instagram, you've probably seen some of the craziness. I can't believe we had so much stuff - well, I could believe my partner had that much stuff but even after all the Goodwill donation bags I still had a LOT left over.

Or maybe it just looks that way because it's all congregated in the living room rather than in designated spots?

Even so, it was a real hassle to move. We rented an Enterprise moving truck (did you know they had those? I did not know they had those.) because Uhaul was totally booked up and no one else had any rental trucks available. Hindsight's 20/20: I should have booked one way in advance! Oops.

So then we packed everything up on Saturday, cleaned up as best we could in our old place, and drove up to our new apartment. Where we sat. Overnight....in the truck. At least my workplace is really close by so I could sneak in for bathroom usage if necessary. What a strange night that was!

So Sunday morning - it was time to get everything OUT of the truck, up the elevator and into our new residence.

I. AM. BEAT.

I don't know about you, but after two straight days of lifting heavy boxes, assembling bed frames, and frantically trying to figure out where the bathroom towels ended up, all I want to do is relax and unwind.

WAYS TO DE-STRESS AFTER A HECTIC MOVE

1. Get some music going. Best confine it to your ear buds though, until you know how chill your neighbors are with loud EDM.

2. Don't bother unpacking any of the kitchen boxes just yet - try out a new restaurant and unwind in a space that isn't cluttered!

3. Test the water pressure in that new shower with a long, luxurious steam clean. The grime of moving boxes is no joke!

4. If you somehow managed to hook up your television (and accompanying hardware) throw on a movie. I enjoy a good classic like The Labyrinth or Tank Girl. ;)

5. Meditate - even if it's just for 5 minutes. Park your butt on the couch (or new balcony!), close your eyes and just breathe deeply.

6. Take a short walk - not only will it help you get acquainted with your new neighborhood, it's also good to loosen up any kinks or tense muscle groups.

7. Invite some friends over - there's nothing like good company - and maybe they'll bring beer - to break a new place in and make things feel less overwhelming.

8. Pamper your skin. Salons are a little out-of-budget for me at the moment, but I have a ton of sheet masks that don't require a lot of time or effort. Bonus points if you meditate with the darn thing on your face. Two birds, one stone!

9. Get a massage. Or have your partner give you one. Just make sure to return the favor.

10. Most importantly - get some sleep. This is precisely why the bed is the first thing that gets set up anywhere I go. Take a nap in the early afternoon or go to sleep early.

How do you relax and unwind after a hectic day or situation? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Omg! Moving is sooo stressful! I hate it! I prob moved more than 10x in my life :( And due to the skyrocketing rent here in California, looks like there is no end to it! I need to do some meditation and a massage after definitely! :) Congrats on the move!

    1. Thank you - I've moved a lot in the past too and I'm really hoping to finally be settled for a couple of years now. :)

  2. These are great ways to relax. Sheep doesn't work for me though since it takes me over a month to get used to a new place enough to be able to get a good night of sleep.

    1. Oh my goodness, can I ever relate to that! These past few nights have been weird - even when I close my eyes and try to tune out with some good ASMR videos - it's like my body still just *knows* I'm not in the same place. So bizarre!
