Black-Owned Gothic and Punk Fashion Brands to Support Today

On June 1st, calls for a boycott against Dolls Kill went out after the owner of the company allegedly posted in support of the police after the murder of George Floyd. It isn't the first time they've been accused of racism, so folks have put together a list of alternative brands to support. I would much rather give my business to Black-owned fashion brands and those that are anti-racist. If you are of the same mind as I am, here are a few brands worth supporting:

Punk Clothing/Alternative

Sinister Sisters
Sinister Sisters only have three items on their Etsy shop right now and none of those sexy crop t-shirts would look out of place at a death metal gig. Make sure to stop back in regularly to check for new items, I know that I definitely will be!

Nasty Gem
Independently owned, every item in this shop is hand-made, processed, packaged and shipped by the owner. Spiky bags and collars, deadly earrings, and chunky steel accessories are the mainstay motifs of Nasty Gem, but you can find some softer touches like butterflies and...Care Bears???

Funky Punk NYC
FunkyPunkNYC (Formerly known as Surreal Designs NYC) is run by Giselle and features mostly t-shirts with hand-drawn or hand-painted designs. She also sells hand-painted accessories, prints of illustrations and portraits and even some vintage/older clothing from her closet. Her style is largely inspired by old-fashioned horror, classic rock music, 50s, 60s & 70s style comic book illustration and a bit of Surrealism.

Badmouthed Bruja
If you've ever wanted to slap the face of Nancy from The Craft or Prudence from that Sabrina reboot onto your spiked leather vest, Badmouthed Bruja's got you. They make amazing enamel pins of different characters and also keychains, stickers, and magnets.

Gothic Clothing

Glam Goth Beauty
Glam Goth Beauty is creepy, chic, glamorous, and most importantly, vegan and cruelty-free! GGB celebrates the alternative and the LGBT so you can support #PrideMonth and #BlackLivesMatter with their pigmented eye shadow, fake lashes, and Glam Goth apparel.

Gothic Lamb is currently on a break, but if I had to describe their style I'd call it creepy cute meets nu goth meets activism - and it's pretty amazing. You can follow their Instagram to see lots of fun t-shirt and hoodie options.

Bound UK is the London-based harness brand, run by Ellisha Moses who describes her design aesthetic as a fusion between innovation and imagination. It probably takes a little imagination to get yourself into a fashion harness, but once it's on.... ;)

Gothic Lolita-Inspired Clothing

If you like Dracula, ruffled collars, and bell sleeves -  E L E G Y is for you. Harking back to the very old-school aesthetics of Moi-Meme-Moitie, E L E G Y ought to be the place to indulge all our deepest and darkest Victorian vampire fashion fantasies.

Samantha R. Crossland began her fashion design career with her label “Blasphemina’s Closet”, one of the first Lolita clothing lines in the US, in 2000. After closing “Blasphemina’s Closet” in September of 2013, she started anew with her new eponymous label “Samantha Rei”. “Samantha Rei” embodies the sweetness, femininity and attention to detail that has come to be expected from the designer.

*Samantha is currently selling Beauty! Strength! Rebellion! tote bags for $25. All proceeds go to Darnella Frazier Fund to support the young woman who recorded the video of George Floyd's murder and to #RestoreNorth, a fund set up to help restore businesses impacted by COVID-19 and recent events.

Lilith et Dalia
"Welcome to Lilith et Adalia! Where you can find handmade one-of-a-kind garments for you or your little loved one. Each piece is handmade by your designers with care." There are some absolutely gorgeous photos of completed garments in the reviews section, I highly recommend this shop for your custom Gothic Lolita.
