Easy Ways to Stay Hydrated During the Day
Experts used to recommend at least 8 glasses of water every day (the revised number is closer to 11 now), but we don't need to drink plain water all the time to get that hydration. Here are five things you probably already consume regularly that contribute to your overall hydration:
1.) Coffee.
Yes, coffee! For years people have insisted that coffee can't possibly have any hydrating benefits because it often acts as a diuretic, but recent research indicates that the mild diuretic effect does not outweigh it's ability to also hydrate. So go ahead and have that large cup of coffee next time you're thirsty -- worry free.
2.) Tea.
Same story as coffee really, but many teas are caffeine-free so you don't have the diuretic effect at all, plus you're getting a whole bunch of potential herbal supplements and antioxidants.
3.) Juice.
Whether it's Welch's grape juice or your morning OJ, fruit juice can be a very hydrating beverage. If you're worried about sugar intake, dilute it with a bit of water or reach for a sugar-free version.
4.) Milk.
Opt for a fat-free dairy milk if you really want a good dose of hydration - some research claims it works better than sports drinks like Gatorade and will aid in muscle recovery. If you're lactose intolerant or vegan - almond or coconut milk are just as powerful for hydration.
5.) Fruits and Veggies.
You can also eat your hydration! Fruits with high water content like watermelon, grapes, and strawberries are fantastic ways to stay healthy and hydrated. Likewise, veggies like celery, lettuce and cucumber are great for maintaining your H2O balance!

Remember: if you're active during the day, it's hot outside, or you're just coming out of a workout, make sure to replenish your fluids and consume more than the recommended minimum. Staying hydrated is important for overall health, but it also contributes to your energy levels and even your mood!
