My Personal Birth Chart
Horoscopes are funny things. They often hold so much truth when we read them, but all the ones we see in the backs of magazines or for free online are, pretty much, a bunch of woo-woo nonsense. After all, they're purposely written as to be vague enough to apply to anyone who falls under a particular sign. If you squint -- no, especially if you squint.
That's why I was so hesitant about creating my birth chart. For those of you a little less up to speed on in-depth astrology, a birth chart is a map of where all the planets were in their orbit around the Sun at the precise moment of your birth. This map is often represented as a circle (that represents you) with a horizontal line through it. All the planets that were visible during your time of birth are above the line and those that weren't are below it. Furthermore, the circle is divided up in twelve parts, called "Houses" and each sign of the Zodiac is assigned to each of the twelve lines between Houses.
Am I making your head spin yet?
It's all very complicated, but I used a nifty website to chart my Horoscope and you can, too.
Here's mine, as an example. If you hover over each sign, it'll tell you what House or Sign it falls under....
Most people are only aware of their Sun Sign - one of the twelve signs in the Zodiac - but it is both the Sun and Moon signs that tell us about our most essential personality traits and inner selves. For example, I'm a Libra with a Moon in Aquarius, which makes perfect sense when you also acknowledge that I'm an INFJ personality type - a social introvert.
But we also have Rising Signs and aspects based on where all the planets were at the time of our birth and each one plays a critical role in our experiences on earth.
For instance, those of us born in the Millennial Generation were all born with Pluto in Scorpio. Those under this sign bring things that are hidden to light and often find themselves fighting for human rights, social justice, and grappling with the darkness of reality.
While exploring the deep and dark depths of astrology and what planetary alignment can tell us about ourselves, our peers, and our generational struggles can be fun and enlightening, it really doesn't solve any problems for us. We can only take the information we glean about ourselves and hopefully, apply in a way that benefits both us and the world around us.
What's your sign? Do you feel like you share a lot of it's commonly associated traits or do you feel as though you should have been born under a different sign? Leave me a comment below!
