2017 Holiday Gift Ideas for The Dudes

Don't let the title fool you, there are gonna be plenty of viable gift ideas here for the less-than-feminine folks in your world, but it's pretty notoriously agreed upon: Dudes are hard to shop for. Sure, we could go the easy route and settle for the same ol' slippers, tech gadgets, booze paraphernalia, and sports tix like we do every year but doesn't that feel kind of...impersonal? Almost like we're foisting the tropes of masculinity upon our dude folk without really taking into consideration who they are beyond that masculinity?

Well enough is enough! So without further adieu:

2017's Holiday Gift Ideas for The Dudes

The Gamer | The Nerd | The Sports Fan | The Musician | The Sensitive Soul | The Metal/Goth/Punk | The Hipster | The Dad | The Drunk Uncle | The Teen | The IT Guy | Everyone Else

The Gamer

Here's the thing about gamers - they really, really like games. So instead of buying them some cutesy game or console inspired coffee mug or wall art - why not buy, well, a game? Or you can go the extra creative, DIY route and frame a Steam gift card like so:

Other items that are often appreciated: Noise-cancelling headphones, extra cables, console controllers, and paid for DLC (downloadable content) for their favorite game.

The Nerd

Here's where you can go hog-wild with the memorabilia of your choice. Star Wars is set to release their next film this December, so the timing couldn't be more perfect.

The Sports Fan

Chances are pretty high that the sports lover in your life already HAS a team jersey or hoodie, so why not aim for helping him/her accessorize a little? Cozy Socks are appreciated this time of year, but something that can be enjoyed year round is always a winner.

The Musician

Ahhh, musicians - what a finicky bunch. You'll have to modify your gift ideas based on their instrument of choice, but a drummer might appreciate a pair of signed drumsticks by their favorite band, a guitarist might appreciate a new strap or bag of picks, and maybe your violinist friend could benefit from a new chin rest.

A song book is always a neat choice too.

The Sensitive Soul

Let's move on to the thoughtful and quiet man in your life, the one who appreciates lengthy prose and art museums.

This book is a fantastic read for anyone on the quieter side or seeking to understand their introverted loved ones - and the author is a Minnesotan like me!

The Metal/Goth/Punk

Do keep in mind that all three of these are completely different music genres, but they do all have one thing in common - an affinity for industrial and utilitarian aesthetic. At least to some degree.

Unless you know their exact music preferences down to a T - I strongly urge you to walk away from Hot Topic's t-shirt collection and into something a little less....genre specific. :)

The Hipster

Because this guy needs a new mug to drink his organic, Fair Trade Columbia cold-press before his bike delivery service shift. Was that mean? Sue me, hipsters will always be the butt of my jokes!

The Dad

Because Dad should smell good. Mom will thank you.

The Drunk Uncle

You love him to death, even though he's the less responsible version of your dad and he can be a little...perverted, but let's be real. This guy was sloshed before dinner even started. Might as well cash in on that bit of entertainment with this cute mini beer pong set.

The Teen

All the "cool" teen boys love Rick and Morty, but maybe the whole "Pickle Rick!" thing is over....

The IT Guy

Welcome to the wonderful world of Virtual Reality! Your tech dude may or may not already be acquainted with the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift - but this smartphone compatible VR set is the perfect way to dive in without initially shelling out hundreds of dollars.

Everyone Else

If you're absolutely stumped and have no idea what to get for the most difficult to shop for on your life, well, who doesn't love Bob Ross?
