The Crème Shop - Chia Seed Product Review

Health and wellness bloggers love to talk about the health benefits of chia seeds. They were a staple in the Mayan and Aztec diets, are packed full of nutrition, and were recently named a "super food." Today they appear in everything from smoothie bowls to overnight oats.

But have you ever thought about putting them on your face?

Yeah, me neither.

That's why I was so surprised to come across this product line from The Crème Shop - one of my favorite Korean makeup and skin care brands - and naturally, I had to have it.

The Cleanser is your standard squeeze tube, white with a crisp green cap, but the Toner and Moisturizer come in clear plastic containers so you can easily see the consistency and color of the product. Both are kind of milky in hue, while the Cleanser is a white cream straight out of the tube.

I noticed right away that the Cleanser has a bit of medicinal scent to it - it's not strong but it's definitely there. Otherwise it lathered up nicely and felt wonderful on my skin. It even washed off with just a few splashes of water and left my face feeling really soft - not dry or tight at all.

This is good news for someone who lives in a place with harsh, cold winters. The gentler the cleanser, the happier your skin is. #JustMyOpinion

The Toner has a little spritzer applicator on the bottle and the product comes out like a fine mist, gently coating my face. The smell is definitely more pleasant here, though barely noticeable. After patting this gently into my skin, which still felt quite nice and soft, it was time for the serum.

Here's the thing I love about serums - a little bit goes a long way - and this was true of the Moisturizer. One or two pumps of this product easily coated my entire face and a little ways down my neck. The scent of this one was really fresh and nice - like the Toner, but much stronger.

Almost immediately, I could see that my face looked a lot brighter and dewier, but that could have been a trick of the light or wishful thinking...so I used this product line every day for a week.

So, why chia seeds? I wondered that myself so I did a little digging to find out why these little super food ninjas are so darn good your skin.

Apparently, they are rich in nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids and zinc. They're also chock full of antioxidants and are said to have anti-inflammatory properties - which could be beneficial to those struggling with acne or breakouts. (Or, y'know, those of us with skin that's real angry from all the bitter, cold wind outside...)

Chia seeds are also supposed to be great for restoring vital moisture to the skin and diminishing the appearance of wrinkles. While I haven't noticed any of the wrinkles around my eyes fading, I can say that my skin does look more plump and youthful.
